National Immunization Awareness Month

We have all experienced what it's like to be vulnerable to illness. The COVID-19 pandemic reminds us all how intense and serious diseases are and the impact they have when people don't protection through natural immunity or vaccines. Diseases affect our health, well-being, and our community.

Vaccinations are available to help prevent diseases and protect you and your loved ones. Make sure you are protected and up to date on your vaccines. Now is a great time to contact your healthcare provider and make sure you are up to date with your vaccines.

Why vaccinate yourself? Vaccines lower your chances of getting certain diseases as well as lowering your ability to spread a disease. You are not only protecting yourself, but others around you. You can't afford to get sick-your life is busy and you have too much responsbility to risk getting sick. You may also be at risk for certain diseases due to your job, lifestyle, travel, or health conditions.

Why vaccinate your baby/children? A baby's immune system is not fully developed at birth which puts them at huge risk for serious infection. Vaccines reduce this risk by working with the body's natural defenses to help safely develop protection against disease. Vaccines use very small amounts of antigens to help your child's immune system recognize and learn to fight serious disease. Without vaccines, your child is at risk for serious illnesses or even death from diseases like measles and whooping cough.

Are vaccines safe? YES! Before a new vaccine is ever given to people, extensive lab testing is done, once testing in people begins, it can sometimes take years before clinical studies are complete and the vaccine is licensed. Once a vaccine is licensed, the FDA, CDC, NIH, and other federal agencies routinely monitor its use and investigate any potential safety concerns.

REMEMBER: IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO PREVENT A DISEASE THAN TO TREAT IT AFTER IT OCCURS.
